Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery encompasses a group of procedures that allow patients to lose weight and live a healthier quality of life. Bariatric surgery involves surgery on the gastrointestinal tract to reduce the amount of food that can be eaten at one time and decrease absorption of some high calorie food contents. Bariatric surgery is a metabolic operation that not only reduces appetite but also regulates gut hormones to help you achieve a lower weight and sustain that for long period of time.

Roux En Y Gastric Bypass

Often known as the Gastric Bypass is a gold standard operation which has been performed for more than 70 years. In this operation, a small gastric pouch is created to allow for satiety. The pouch is connected to the small intestine to bypass a portion of the gastrointestinal tract. Gastric bypass allows for early satiety and decreased absorption of calories. This way you eat small amounts of food and still feel full. It limits production of hormones that cause hunger.

It is important to take bariatric multivitamins after bariatric procedures to maintain good nutrient status.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

In sleeve gastrectomy, 80% of the stomach is removed. The remaining stomach looks like the size and shape of a banana. The removed portion of the stomach produces hunger hormone Ghrelin. Removing that portion decreases hunger. The remaining stomach restricts the amount of food you can eat and allows you to feel full sooner.

Sleeve gastrectomy has rapidly become a popular operation due to its excellent outcomes.
